Add to that the regular practice of yoga for constipation exercises and you’re on your way to good digestive health.
Yoga for Constipation – 4 Simple, Effective Poses
In the world of yoga, different asanas (poses) target different areas of the body and alleviate different kinds of physical problems. All asanas, however, also promote healthy breathing and relieve the mind of clutter, helping reduce stress and give peace of mind.
Uttanasana is deceptively simple and effective. It is also called Standing Forward Bend. Simply bend forward at the waist and dangle your upper body loosely. See how close you can come to reaching your toes but do not stretch; just dangle.
Parivrtta Trikonasana is almost as easy. Called the Revolved Triangle pose, you start by standing with your feet about four feet apart. Turn your feet so your toes point to the right. Now stretch your arms out from your sides and bend to touch one foot with the opposite hand. Go back and forth from one side to the other.
Dhanurasana (Bow pose) is a yoga for constipation exercise done lying on the floor on your belly. Bend your knees and reach backward to see if you can grab your ankles. Press your belly to the floor to massage your digestive track.
End you yoga session with Savasana (Corpse pose). Lie flat on your back and relax your arms and legs. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Remain in this position for three to five minutes to get blood and oxygen flowing.
While these yoga for constipation exercises are fairly basic you may be surprised how quickly you will experience relief for constipation. Once you’ve mastered these asanas, ask your yoga instructor to show you more advanced exercises to cure – or more likely prevent – constipation.
