Natural prostate health isn’t something that most men consider until things start to go wrong and they are looking at facing surgery or taking pharmaceuticals. Fortunately yoga is an effective and non-invasive natural prostate treatment.
The prostate gland adds fluid to your ejaculate which it is believed helps with fertility by keeping your sperm in tip-top condition for their journey. It also helps make sure that when you do ejaculate there is no urine mixed-in. All-in-all it’s a pretty important piece of your equipment.
Enlarged prostate symptoms
- A weak or interrupted stream of urine when you urinate
- Continuing to dribble after you’ve stopped
- Feeling like you haven’t entirely emptied your bladder although you’ve finished
- Needing to urinate more often (especially during the night)
A swollen prostate can bring misery, discomfort and embarrassment to a man’s life, and prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in men (after lung cancer). So it’s worth taking care of this essential gland before things get out of hand.
If you already have some of these symptoms, don’t worry as yoga and a few simple changes to your diet can make a big (and quick) difference. So, here goes…
Yoga for Natural Prostate Health
Yoga postures (asanas) stretch, massage and strengthen many of the internal organs and glands, and help bring vigor and balance to your whole body. When you throw-in the stress-relieving qualities of yoga and meditation then this amounts to a powerful package to allow your body to begin to heal itself.
Poses which are particularly recommended for prostate problems are Shoulderstand (Sarvangasana) , Bow Pose (Dhanurasana) , Headstand (Sirshasana) , Full Boat Pose (Paripurna Navasana), Reclining Big Toes Pose (Supta Padangusthasana) and Restrained Angle Pose (Baddha-Kona-Asana). This might sound a bit complicated but with exception of the headstand you should be able to easily do most of these.
Performing Kegels which involves the contraction of the muscles of the anus is particularly helpful as this helps stimulate the prostate and the surrounding area. Tighten your anus for 10 seconds (as if you were going to stop urinating), release for another 10, and repeat 10 times. Do this 3 or 4 times per day for good results.
Diet for Natural Prostate Health
If you want to keep your prostate in good health or are looking to relieve the symptoms of a swollen prostate then what you put in your body has a big part to play.
I had severe pain a few years ago from an irritated prostate and what made the biggest difference was eliminating caffeine from my diet. Within 24 hours things improved considerably. So if you enjoy a few strong cups of Joe every day then you might want to cut that out for a week or so and see if it makes any difference. BTW, alcohol doesn’t help either.
The advice on diet is probably nothing surprising, but it’s worth repeating. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds (high in zinc and good oils), and cut down on refined sugars and flour.
Adding some soya milk to your diet can help too, as this helps bring testosterone levels (which can aggravate prostate problems) to more reasonable levels.
Natural Prostate Health – Summary
Medication and surgery for a swollen prostate should really be your last resort as there are potential dangers and side effects, including impotence and infertility. Far better to investigate the natural options that yoga has to offer. The good thing about them is that they will help boost the overall health of your body as well as helping your prostate.
The ancient Yogic medicinal system (ayurveda) uses herbs for prostate health. One of the most popular formulations of these is called Ayurstate from India-Herbs who are a well-established company. As with most ayurvedic preparations this works in a powerful and safe manner. Check it out here
